My lips trembled as I listened for the words about to come.
I sat there silently, hoping they wouldn't, maybe he wouldn't say them.
Realizing there is nothing that will change hearts and minds tonight.
Silently impatiently dreading the next words to escape him.
"I don't want you anymore" he finally said.
There they were the five words I never wanted to hear, but just did.
My emotions over took me, emptiness consumed me whole.
The feeling you get when you thought they might have changed.
The contradiction, how you tried to convince yourself that.
and all I could choke out was "okay."
